Ski holidays Samedan – Lively Village in the Engadin Upper Valley!

Samedan

The quaint area of Samedan in Engadin displays the cultural history of the region on every street corner. Trademarks of the little village is the historical centre with its old Engadin houses, built in the Sgraffito style. With this old scraping technique, the plaster of the buildings' façades appear ornately decorated. The embellished rows of houses, several museums as well as the cultural archive recount quite a bit about the influence of the Engadin culture in the resort. In the centre, Samedan's landmark "La Tour" stands tall, an 800 year old watch tower, where various exhibits and events take place today. Besides the cultural heritage, winter sports goes together with Samedan like snow with winter. Winter hiking trails, cross-country and tobogganing parties on the Muottas Muragl (2,453 m) and extraordinary activities such as paragliding are also available.

The Engadin Upper Valley is known for its dry, cold air and very low temperatures. Often being bitter cold, this "ice cold pearl" shows off its wintry charm by also providing its visitors with extremely comfortable, cosy locales with fireplaces. Just a few kilometres north of Samedan, the dazzling ski hotspot of St. Moritz can be found and with it, the access point into the large St. Moritz-Corviglia ski area.

Engadin

The sun-spoilt Engadin Upper Valley lies in the Graubünden canton. The region is separated into Upper Engadine and Lower Engadine, Upper Engadine being really impressive with its gorgeous landscape filled with lakes, forests and breathtaking glaciers. "Piz Bernina" is the only 4,000 m mountain in the eastern Alps. It is very impressive and, along with the majestic Morteratsch glacier, is located in Engadin. The region is not just the fount of "white winter holidays", but also the River Inn. The upper valley astonishes constantly with contrasts, which really distinguishes the famous resort of St. Moritz. St. Moritz is an annual destination for high society. In addition to modern and luxurious architecture, one can find many rustic farms and old Romanesque churches in the rest of Engadin.
